Destination Info

Africa is the world's second-largest and second-most populous continent, containing one-fifth of the earth’s entire land surface. Africa has a large blessing of natural resources, including diamond, sugar, salt, gold, iron, cobalt, uranium, copper, bauxite, silver, petroleum and cocoa beans, but also woods and tropical fruits etc. It holds almost 30% of the world's known mineral reserves. Africa is the world's fastest-growing region for foreign direct investment. It's home to more than 40 different nations and around 2,000 languages. Sub-Saharan Africa has six of the world's 10 fastest-growing economies.

Usually, the number one reason for travelers to visit Africa is to embark on a safari or to climb Kilimanjaro, and while Africa certainly does have some of the most prolific wildlife viewing opportunities and one of the seven summits, there are so many more reasons to visit Africa. The most common limiting factor on trips is how much time you have available when visiting a continent that is one and a half times the size of North America!

Duration summaries

1-6 nights

This is an extremely short period of time to visit Africa, especially if you are coming from North America considering your flight time, jet lag and desire once in destination. For a trip like this, if you're coming form a nearby location would be doable.

7-9 nights

Again, not recommended (but doable) if you are coming from the United States. This would be a short trip to Africa, but can work if you only want to visit one or two areas.

10-15 nights

This is the most popular length for a safari trip, allowing for relatively well paced combinations of 2 or 3 locations. But best to avoid combinations of Eastern and Southern Africa.

16-21 nights

If you have the extra time available for a longer trip, then the incremental cost can be relatively low. Options open up for all nicely paced and with a huge range of experiences.

24+ nights

For longer duration we are talking about some serious life-changing trips, sabbaticals and epic journeys. The range of locations that can be combined is mind-boggling and the pace can be really nice and slow, which adds quality and depth along the way. We love working on these longer trips!

Factors that Affect Your Price

When to go travel to a particular location, things really boil  down to what you're in pursuit of...great weather or a great price. Traveling during peak season your bound experience higher crowds, and pay the highest dollar for accommodations, food, and excursions etc. On the flip side of the coin, if you're not allergic to a bit of rain, severe temperatures, inclement weather etc., you may find pricing to be more attractive and crowds to be minimal. Having said that, The best time to visit Africa tends to depend on wildlife - with May to October being popular months in the game-rich plains of East and Southern Africa. In the north, the desert winters are chilly and the summers hot - spring and autumn are much more pleasant. June to early September coincide with the Wildebeest Migration, and gorillas can be seen in Uganda and Rwanda all year round.

Passport & Visa Information

South Africa strictly enforces entry and exit requirements and other immigration laws. Failure to observe these requirements may result in the traveler being denied entry, detained, deported, and/or deemed inadmissible to enter South Africa in the future.  If you are traveling to South Africa, you are required to have a valid passport that is valid for at least 30 days past your departure from the country and (2) consecutive unused visa pages.

  • Information provided by the Department of State regarding the U.S. Citizens visiting South Africa can be found by clicking here.

  • Information on vaccinations required to enter this country can be found at we will assist with reminders but ultimately it is the traveler's responsibility to ensure they meet the entry requirements.

Lifestyle Considerations

Travelers should be respectful of their laws and religious practices in other countries. From attire to public displays of affection and lifestyle.
